Anila Schroers
Strategic Lead, Gender Justice - Oxfam Australia
Professional Bio
Over the last two decades, Anila has worked in supporting women and other vulnerable groups across sectors of social inclusion, preventing gender-based violence, economic justice, resilient livelihoods, and natural resource management. Her work in Oxfam entails critical analysis of existing systems, policies, and practices through a GEDSI lens.
One of Oxfam’s core contributions to gender justice sector has been the recognition of care economy as a fundamental aspect of development work. In Oxfam she champions integrated programming models that seek alternatives to a flawed economic model that benefit only a wealthy few at the cost of environmental sustainability and on the backs of the poor, women, racialized and marginalized communities. Being from Pakistan, Anila is aware of the complexities of engaging communities in conversations around gender, intersectional identities, and inclusion. Therefore, her focus is to always co-create solutions to gender and inclusion alongside partners and communities that are locally determined and culturally acceptable.
