Professional Bio
Michael McCormack is The Nationals’ Federal Member for Riverina, a scenic and important agricultural region often referred to as the food bowl of Australia.
Having been raised on family farms around Wagga Wagga, Michael has continued to live and work in the Riverina and, ultimately, advocate for the Riverina as its elected representative.
Originally pursuing journalism, Michael became the youngest person to be appointed editor of a daily newspaper in Australasia at the time. Michael went on to co-found and operate a media and publishing business in Wagga Wagga until he was elected to Parliament in 2010.
Michael has a keen interest in military history and throughout his career has fought for improved recognition and services for Veterans. Veterans’ Affairs are particularly important to his electorate, with Wagga Wagga having two major military bases – Army Recruit Training Centre Kapooka and RAAF Base Wagga.
Since entering Parliament, Michael has had the honour to hold several portfolios, including Minister for Veteran’s’ Affairs and Defence Personnel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development.
Michael is currently the Shadow Minister for International Development and the Pacific and continues to fight for the people of Riverina.
