Talk Description
Institution: ActionAid Australia and Edmund Rice Centre
As we near the halfway point of the critical decade for climate action, communities in Kiribati and Tuvalu are battling escalating climate disasters and the grave danger of rapidly rising seas. Join us to hear from young leaders from Kiribati and Tuvalu who are at the forefront of climate action at home, and leading calls for a massive increase in climate ambition in Australia and across the world.
Activists will share their experiences of climate change and the impact that global heating is having across their communities. They will also explore the different ways that they are responding to climate impacts in their work, in their communities and in the global policy arena.
As Australia bids to host COP31, the session will provide an opportunity for panelists to hear about Pacific demands for climate action, and to discuss how Australian and Pacific civil society can work together over the next two years to set the world on track towards ambitious climate action and to chart a path to a successful Pacific COP in 2026.
