Talk Description

A maneaba (Kiribati) or “maneapa” (Tuvalu) is a common meeting place within villages, similar to a Maori Marae. Movements is to symbolise the movement of significant places such as maneapa and families/communities due to the impacts of climate change.
The performers are six Pacific activists, participating in the Australian Awards Fellowships, supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. They are in Australia for 6 weeks, hosted by the Edmund Rice Centre. During their time here, they are participating in capacity building workshops, dialogue with First Nations and Pacific Diaspora communities, speaking at events hosted by youth and grassroots climate organisations as well as travelling to Canberra to participate in a kava circle with politicians. The fellows are looking forward to the opportunity to share their personal experiences of climate change to different communities here in Australia especially in the lead up to the forecasted “Pacific” COP. You can join the fellows for their Concurrent Session on Thursday in "Pacific Demands for Climate Justice: from COP29 to COP31".
